We have no art.  We do everything as beautifully as possible

Tell us more about yourself.

My name is Elisa, I am 31 years old and was born in Paris but spent some of my youth in Morocco. I think it was there, in Morocco, that gave me the taste to travel and what heightened my sense of curiosity to learn about different cultures. In Paris I studied graphic design in high school, but after graduating found it difficult to find work because of the economic crisis in 2008. I had to put food on the table so I resigned myself to take a job in a famous ready-to-wear brand where I stayed for several years, eventually becoming store manager. Although it was a very enriching experience, it was an exhausting job and I eventually burned out, so I packed my bags and went to live in Bali!

I soon found a position as business Developer for a brand of swimwear created by a French woman. Although I didn’t have a business school background, I learned on the job, day by day. I then found a position of Communication and Marketing Manager for an Australian ready-to-wear brand, another very educational expérience. At the same time, I started freelancing as a Graphic Designer. One day, I thought ”Wouldn’t it be nice to use all the skills I’ve gathered in my various expériences to create my own personal project?!” I wanted something more creative, something more me. I wanted to create something that would combine my experience in Bali, my love of nature and something good for the planet. It was then that Coconut & Soul  was born: my own brand of stationary and wallpaper, 100% eco-friendly and made in France.

Tell us more about Coconut & Soul.

After 3 years in Bali, I returned to France to start my own projet, giving myself 2 years. I took a free course with ADIE to learn how to create a business plan, which was very rewarding. I was part of a small group of young entrepreneurs mentors by retired entrepreneurs. Thanks to that, I was able to establish a solid plan, something that reinforced my idea of an entrepreneurs adventure. I saw that I could launch my own project on my personal saving and using the skills I acquired over that last few years. In areas where I lacked the experience or expertise, I was able to count on the help of friends who would help fill in the caps. I completed the training in May 2017 and started to create the printed materials. I met with supplier and started making samples, and It went fast! In september of 2017, I launched the first product line and marketed my products beginning in December of the same year.

Where and how are your drawing conceived?

I mostly draw outdoors, in nature, my first source of inspiration. If it is nice outside, it is al the inspiration I need! Each of my prints pay tribute to one of the myriad of beauties found in nature on the island of Bali: the jungle, the beach, the seabeds…

How would you describe your product?

I make eco-reponsable stationary and wallpaper with hand made motifs inspired by travel and nature.

What is your inspiration at this moment?

The island of Bali is a bottomless source of inspiration for me, and I will return there in a few days.

Tell us about your workshop

My workshop is the world! Every beach, park and natural spot inspire me and makes me want to take out my notebook and pen to draw!

What is a typical day at Coconut & Soul?

I spend a lot of time on social network to communicate with my Coconut lovers! I also take care of the content creation to supply the site and networks, as well as the commercial management with the retailers.

Which projects are most important to you?

To be able to donate a percentage of my profits to an Indonesian association which helps victims of natural disasters.

Will you be showing your products at any of the decoration fairs this year? If yes, which ones?

I have no shows planned for this year as I’ll be returning to Indonesia where I will focus on the development of my stationary and decor lines.

What are you next projects?

To develop new products with the expertise of Balinese craftsmen and get inspired with this fabulons island to create new, even more tropical, prints!
